Fantasy is something fascinating, whether in games, films, books or other media. But the genre has always evolved and is just hard to grasp. You can choose between high fantasy and low fantasy, between urban and science, historical and romance.
The genre is now so diverse that you can choose from thousands upon thousands of games. In our Fascination Fantasy theme week, we look back at 15 fantasy games that we think are particularly relevant and tell you why they have played such an important role in the genre for us.
To get straight to the point: Such a list can never be complete! If only because each of us has a very individual idea of what constitutes good fantasy. But that’s the beauty of it: There are no limits to the imagination – neither in our heads nor in computer and video games.
So follow us on a fantastic journey into the past. And then let us know in the comments which games fired your imagination the most.
updates: In the original version there were only ten games, in retrospect simply too few to at least show the most important milestones. We therefore discussed it again and, based on your feedback, added five more titles that Geekerline Editor-in-Chief Heiko Klinge remembers.
Of course, you are more than welcome to tell us what you think is the most important or best fantasy game in the comments. What does your top list look like?
Fascination Fantasy – More than dragons! In the week from November 22 to 29, 2022, Geekerline is about what is perhaps the most popular game genre of all. Every day we publish articles and videos all about our love of fantasy. Perfect if you’re looking to get in the appropriately fantastic mood ahead of the release of WoW: Dragonflight – or if you simply share our passion for sorcery, magical creatures, and alien worlds.
